With this year's running of the Daytona 500, I started wondering about the history of NASCAR racing. I then found myself reminiscing a little about my earliest, and some of my fondest, memories of racing.
What are some of your earliest racing memories? Do they involve being a race fan or actually being in the driver's seat?
I'm going to share why racing has a firm pull on my heart at the end of this post. First, let's find out just how much, or how little, NASCAR racing trivia you know with these NASCAR trivia questions and answers.
First up, an easy question. What does NASCAR stand for? NASCAR is an acronym for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, and more specifically stock car racing.
Now, most of you race fans already know what NASCAR stands for, but let's see if you know the following answer about stock cars.
Why were they called stock cars? Okay this might be easy too but I promise, they get harder. But the answer is, cars used for this type of racing were originally production models, thus, "stock", but are now highly modified.
According to the NASCAR website, there are two important milestones of racing that are considered to be of the most important dates in establishing the sport. Do you know what they are?
Since these modest beginnings, NASCAR has grown into a vast industry of races, racing gear and merchandise (like tees for all ages and gadgets for men and women of all kinds) with fans of all ages reaching every corner of the world.

NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 US states as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
I grew up in Orange County, New York where of course we had the famous Orange County Speedway! Even though I lived about 10 miles away from the track, every Saturday night when they were racing I could hear the roar of the cars. You know what I mean right?
And as I've mentioned before in my posts here on C Larboard, when I was a kid, my family had an RV in which we took a lot of weekend trips to explore the region around us.
On several occasions we travelled to the Pocono Raceway to watch the Pocono 500 Race (now the Pocono 400). I have fond memories of sitting on the top of the motorhome watching the races from the infield.
