Are YOU Reaping The Benefits of Travel?

In last week’s blog titled "Is Travel the Way to Better Health and Happiness?", I mentioned a few studies that discussed the benefits of travel. I went over the importance of planning travel into your life and also covered that it has been proven that travel can help relieve stress in your life. But what else can travel be good for other than relieving stress?

Perhaps your travel could help you stay fit, improve your brain health and help learn more about the area you live?

Stay Fit While on Vacation

I found a great article titled: 7 Scientific Facts that Prove Travel is Good for your Health. The article discusses that travel exposes you to different environments which creates stronger antibodies and boosts your immune system significantly. It also goes on to say that when you travel, you want to try new things and see all there is to see.

When you travel you are more likely to attempt an extreme sport, walk the city streets much more than you would back home, or hike to get the best views of your surroundings. Even when you stay all day at the beach, walking on sand forces your muscles to work twice as hard! Who knew?

Improve Your Brain Health

The same article I mentioned above also discusses that travel improves your brain health. Travel expands our minds as we meet new people and adapt to new situations. We also become more globally and culturally aware. This is all good for our health because new experiences increase cognitive flexibility, keeping your mind sharp and increasing our creativity.

Learn More About Your Hometown

Travel doesn’t have to be a long-extended journey. Maybe you could plan a staycation!

Staycation? What is this word staycation everyone seems to be talking about?

 By Definition:

stay·ca·tion (noun)is a vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

A lot of people are realizing that it is just as fun AND beneficial to stay home or close to home to explore. Maybe it is exploring a local park or museum or some tourist attraction you have never been to. Maybe it’s going on a local hiking trail, biking on the local trail or treating yourself to a spa treatment. Or maybe it’s going on a road trip to just get out on the open road. There are so many choices that you never have to feel stuck at home.

These options do not have to break the bank but you will still reap the benefits of the getting away and learning more about your own hometown or region. What’s most important about your staycation is that, even if it just for a few hours, you disconnect from your phone, work or stressors.

I Said This Last Week, But I Think It Is Worth Saying Again…
